What a beautiful time of year autumn is!
The weather cools down. The leaves change color. The children return to school.
The Seasons
I grew up in a part of the country that really only had two seasons: warm and pleasant, or cool and damp.
Now, I live where there are four distinct seasons: fall, winter, spring, and summer.
I’ve decided that my favorite season is always the one I’m currently experiencing.
There’s something exciting and new with each season’s arrival. Every one of them brings a sense of possibility and promise.
Isn’t this similar to our own lives?
Each season, each year, and even each month can be filled with excitement—if we allow ourselves to see the possibilities.
But sometimes, for various reasons, it feels too difficult to fully embrace the joy of life.
Perhaps circumstances are beyond our control, or maybe limiting beliefs are holding us back.
Sometimes, worries and fears feel overwhelming, causing us to miss out on life’s beautiful moments without even noticing them, let alone enjoying them.
The Sunset
Recently, I saw a stunning sunset.
Just ten or fifteen minutes earlier, we had been outside as a family, but we didn’t stay long because it was cold and cloudy.
We went back inside, and everyone went their separate ways.
A short time later, the sky turned a blazing orange, but only I noticed—and only because I happened to glance out the window.
The Decision
I had a choice to make.
Should I continue with my task, or pause for a moment to appreciate the beauty before me?
How often do we miss a glorious sunset because it doesn’t align with our schedule, or because we’re too distracted or busy with less meaningful things?
I encourage you to take a few moments throughout your day to:
- Pause
- Breathe deeply
- Notice the beauty of the moment you’re in
Whether it’s appreciating the physical moment or the season of life you’re experiencing, allow yourself to be open to the promise of possibilities!
Much love,
