Have you ever agreed to do something and then second-guessed yourself, wishing you hadn’t said yes?
Last week I was invited to go on a bike ride with some friends I hadn’t seen in awhile.
I was excited and yet hesitant.
My mind started playing games.
-What if I can’t keep up? They’re all more fit than I am.
-What if I can’t lift my own bike into the pickup? These were at least 50-lb. e-bikes.
-What if I have a miserable time?
Can you see where my thoughts were taking me?
What if…?
What if…?
After not liking how I felt as these questions spun in my mind, I turned those questions around.
-What if I could keep up?
-What if I could lift my bike?
-What if I had a great time?
I felt better after contemplating those answers.
The day came and I was pleased to discover…
-I could keep up.
-We all helped one another with our heavy bikes.
-I had a wonderful time enjoying these great women.
I could have listened to the downward spiral of those negative self-questions, and chosen not to go.
Instead, I chose the upward cycle of the positive questions and enjoyed a memorable day.
All by switching my what ifs.
Are there times when you talk yourself out of experiences by questioning yourself?
How about switching those what ifs to the positive possibilities and being pleasantly surprised at the results?
Which will you choose?
With love,
