I was deeply touched by an article I read recently. Jeffrey R. Holland, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said,
“You undoubtedly will have days, to quote Mr. Donne (John Donne, the English poet and cleric and dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral in the 1500’s), when you may feel dark, cold, ‘clouded,’ or ‘eclipsed.’ But if you desire God’s mercy, I promise that help will come to you, ‘not as in the dawning of the day, not as in the bud of the spring, but as the sun at (full) noon,’ banishing every shadow. All occasions invite divine mercy, and in heaven it is always harvest time. Be secure and safe, today and always, in the victory of the kingdom of God over the troubles and ills of mortality. I am more certain of that victory than I am of any other thing I have ever learned….”
What thoughts and feelings come to you as you read this quote?
Do you have days of feeling “clouded” or “eclipsed?” Perhaps tempted to believe life is just too hard?
I definitely have and so I responded to being taught that “all occasions invite divine mercy!”
Have you considered that your experiences are opportunities for God to work in and through you?
It all begins with desire. “But if you desire God’s mercy, I promise that help will come to you.”
What a promise!
And not just a little bit of help or a token effort of help, but a fullness of help that eliminates the darkness completely! “. . . as the sun at (full) noon.”
Elder Holland affirms, “Be secure and safe, today and always.”
You can choose to focus on the distress around you and flounder in the life-zapping weight of disbelief and negativity, but as for me,
I choose to believe.
What will you choose, dear friend?
I invite you to ponder these words and open yourself to the insights and comfort that come. Please share your discoveries. Email or comment below.
