You know about unsung heroes. You may even be one yourself. The individuals who get overlooked and forgotten, yet who make it possible for others to shine.
Good Things in Life
They, or you, may not receive much praise or acknowledgment, but without them, many good things in life just don’t happen.
I had an experience recently that reminded me of George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life. Remember, George was at a turning point, burdened and feeling that his life did not amount to much. He felt he was a failure. His dreams had passed him by and he began to think that others would be better off without him.
He was given the experience of seeing what the world would have been like without the influence of his gentle, seemingly insignificant life.
To him, his life seemed small, but in truth it was powerful! He is an unsung hero.
Personal Experience
We recently spent time with my family in the mountains, riding ATV’s and hiking. My husband cheerfully drove us to the trailhead.
He was unable to hike, but he looked forward to resting in his recliner lawn chair in the woods while he waited for our return.
We hiked first to one lake and then a second on an inviting trail, while the continual rise in elevation challenged us.
We had great experiences and made fun memories!
Four hours later we returned to find a good-natured dad waiting patiently in the pickup. The mosquitos had been too thick for him to enjoy a rest in his lawn chair out under the trees.
Appreciation was expressed. Descriptions shared. Soon we were on our way home.
Our Unsung Hero
Our great experience was no so great for my husband, yet he never once complained.
This wasn’t the first time he has responded to imperfect situations in such an accepting way.
His calm, patient, manner allows his children’s, and my exuberant activities possible.
He is our unsung hero.
If we are not careful, we could easily overlook or under appreciate his contributions or himself as a person. What a shame that would be.
Are there unsung heroes in your life who have made it possible for you to shine? Are you that unsung hero? Sometimes it’s nice to hear the words.
Thank you.
Much love,
