Do you take time to laugh? Really laugh?
Does life seem too serious to participate in such frivolity?
An article from the Mayo Clinic tells us that laughter creates physical changes in the body that create both short- and long-term health benefit.
Along with improving our mood and lessening depression and anxiety, laughter can:
–Stimulate the organs, increasing oxygen and endorphins released by the brain.
–Activate and relieve the stress response, creating a relaxed feeling.
–Relax muscles by increasing circulation.
–Strengthen the immune release neuropeptides to fight stress.
–Relieve pain by causing the body to produce its own painkillers.
And did I mention lessens depression and anxiety?
With all these benefits, why would we not take advantage of hearty laughter?
Years ago, as a busy mother of six young children, I kept a file of articles and quotes that made me laugh out loud. If I only smiled, it did not make the cut.
I was reminded of the file recently as I glanced through the categories for entering our local Mud Lake Fair. Yes, that is the name.
“Pinewood Derby
Come and enjoy some fun with your old Pinewood Derby Cars!
Your cars can’t have a motor or use rocket fuel.”
Maybe you only smiled and didn’t laugh at all. That’s OK.
Start noticing what makes you laugh, and then give yourself permission to enjoy all those healthful benefits as well as your joyous laughter.
Much love,
