What a beautiful time of year is Autumn! The leaves change color. The children are back in school. The air gets cooler.
I grew up in a part of the country that really only had two seasons. Pleasant and warm or damp and cold. Now I live where there are definitely four distinct seasons, Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer and it’s hard to choose my favorite. To tell you the truth, the season I’m experiencing at the time seems to be my favorite! There is so much that is exciting and new each time the new season rolls around because each is filled with the promise of possibilities and excitement!
Is this not similar to our own lives?
Each season, each year, even each month can be filled with excitement if we allow ourselves to see the possibilities! But sometimes, for various reasons, the joy of experiencing life in its fullest, seems too difficult. Perhaps circumstances are beyond our control, or we have beliefs that are holding us back. Maybe the worries and fears are more than we can handle and so those beautiful moments of life slip past us without us noticing them, much less appreciating them.
I witnessed a beautiful sunset the other night. We had been outside as a family 10 or 15 minutes earlier. It had been cloudy and a little breezy and cold so we didn’t stay outside long. We went back inside and everyone scattered. A short time later the sky turned a blazing orange, but only I noticed and even that was by chance when I happened to look out the window.
I had a decision to make. Continue on with my task or stop for a moment and appreciate the beauty of that moment.
How often do we miss the glorious sunset because it didn’t happen on our time schedule or we become distracted or busy in something less fulfilling?
I encourage you to take a few moments throughout the day today to pause, breathe deeply and notice the beauty of the moment you are in, whether it be the physical moment or the season of life you are experiencing and be open to the excitement and possibilities!
Sending you love and healing.
