A canal runs through our farm. I enjoy taking my walks along its bank watching families of ducks quietly paddling along in the clear blue, water.
About once a week the water becomes cloudy and murky.
During the hot summer months moss grows in the canal and restricts the flow of water. Pumps and screens get clogged and are unable to deliver the water for irrigation.
Weekly the ditch riders drive two small tractors, one on each side of the canal, dragging a large chain between them to break the moss loose so it can float to the end of the canal and be cleaned out.
It isn’t as pleasant to walk along the banks right after a mossing, but it takes only a few hours for the flow of water to clear.
Recently as I was on my daily walk, just following the latest mossing of the canal, I discovered a parallel meaning in that murky water.
Just as it’s necessary to regularly clean out the canal to keep the water flowing smoothly, so it is necessary to regularly clean our emotional and mental states to maintain a healthy well-being.
It may seem easier to gloss over or ignore the painful parts of our lives, yet unless we take care of the uncomfortable aspects, problems arise in our health, our relationships, and our day to day living.
Our ability to function and ultimately thrive increases with our ability to clear out stagnant and festering emotional blockages.
As I walked along that murky canal that day, I used every passing clump of moss to symbolically represent anything that was interfering with my emotional health.
It was an effective visual means of cleaning up emotional garbage.
Can you find something similar to visualize to help you clean up whatever is holding you back? Or join the ducks and me in seeing the weekly maintenance that ensures clear flowing water.
Much love,

I loved this Melanie! I feel when we do our own ‘mossing’ things may look a little murky for a bit before it looks/feels clear again!

So true Debbie! And the challenge for me is being patient during that murky time. ?
