What have you been telling yourself today?
Take a moment and think about what you’ve been thinking.
Now, remember a dear friend or loved family member.
Would you say the things to them you’ve been thinking about yourself?
Some years ago, I was asked this question when I needed help getting through a difficult time.
I had been berating myself for all my mistakes and weaknesses, and there appeared to be many in my eyes. In fact, that’s all I could see about myself.
When I thought of saying to my friends the things I was saying to myself, I was horrified. “I would never say those things to them!”
When asked why, I replied. “Because it’s unkind and just not true!”
In that powerful moment, I realized the damage I had been doing to myself.
When we believe untrue thoughts, we lose our ability to experience joy.
Can you see the importance of recognizing and living in truth? Of thinking correctly?
Recognizing untrue thoughts then becomes a powerful tool to restoring emotional health.
Remember, if you wouldn’t say it to a friend, or about a friend, then please don’t ever say it about yourself!
Much love,
