I did my first Facebook live last week and I tell ya’ it wasn’t easy!
I had so many reasons not to:
- I’m not comfortable with technology and didn’t know how to do it.
- Talking “off the cuff” is not my strong point. I really like to be prepared.
- I had no make-up on and my hair was windblown and wet from just coming in from a hike.
There were so many perceived obstacles that I came close to putting it off one more day.
How many times in your life do you avoid doing something because it might make you feel uncomfortable? Ask yourself where such decisions are taking you? Are you happier, more fulfilled or is there a nagging sensation and feeling of disappointment?
Often times we put off a goal or a dream thinking we’ll do it when we get good. It doesn’t work that way. We get good in the process of doing! Even with or actually because of all the mistakes and failures along the way!
Ralph Waldo Emerson said: “That which we persist in doing becomes easier to do, not that the nature of the thing has changed but that our power to do has increased.”
That is what you’re doing by stretching yourself out of your comfort zone – increasing your capacity, your talents, your being!
So, what is one thing you can do today that will stretch you, just a bit? It doesn’t have to be huge, in fact, it shouldn’t be or it’s too easy to give up or not even begin. My encouragement for you is to start small and celebrate each step along the way enjoying the process of growth!
If I can figure out Facebook live on my own, talk without a script, knowing I’m looking a little weathered, then I know you can most definitely do something, no matter how small, to stretch yourself today and experience the confidence that comes from just doing!
Sending you my encouragement! You can do this!
Love,
