As we prepare for the new year, our thoughts turn to self-improvement.
Do you sometimes wonder if your daily efforts to better yourself make much difference, especially when you don’t see immediate changes?
Consider the many types of morning routines that might include such things as meditation, reciting affirmations, time spent in prayer, reading scripture or positive books, or physical exercise.
We hear the benefits of daily routines of self-improvement, but if you’re not seeing obvious changes, why continue?
I compare these efforts to the hours of training medical professionals goes through. Though they have prepared for many medical emergencies, they will not experience every emergency every day. And there may be some situations they may never face.
And yet, they spend days, even years preparing. So when emergencies happen, they can immediately access the learning acquired much earlier.
If they had waited until the moment of crisis to learn or try to recall the technique needed, it would be too late. The person in crisis would not receive the help needed.
So it is with us.
Our efforts help us daily, but more than that, they prepare us for what the future holds.
We are creating mental, emotional, and spiritual stamina as we consistently stick with our self-improvement practices.
With that strength comes confidence that we will be prepared and able to navigate whenever challenges arise.
So, though it may not seem much is changing for us immediately, as we continue with our daily practices, trust that it’s building within us the fortitude and ability to flourish in any circumstance.
With consistent effort we are prepared. We can be at peace, assured that we have the ability and the tools to navigate any challenges.
Believe in yourself. Carry on with your commitment to self-improvement.
