Autumn seems to be quickly taking on the feel of winter. But before we rush headlong into the colder weather I want to share with you what I observed not too long ago on my morning walk.
I was enjoying the wild sunflowers that were growing around our farm and I stopped to take some pictures. I was getting frustrated because the light of the sun was at such an angle that my shadow was in every picture! How annoying was that?!
I tried reaching my camera out to the side and snapping a picture, crouching down low, walking around to the side and then the back. Coming from behind didn’t work because as sunflowers do, they were facing the sun and the back side of the flowers wasn’t very pretty. It wasn’t until I raised my arms high above my head to take the picture that I was able to get a clean shot of the sunflowers, free of any shadow.
Often times we see shadows in our experiences of life and maybe feel regret that the experience isn’t all that we wanted or hoped it would be. We may feel cheated and resentful. Yet, if we can remember to raise our view, just as I did with my camera, we may find a cleaner, clearer picture of that situation that allows for a greater understanding. With that higher perspective, the shadows disappear.
What a difference a change in perspective makes!
Is there something you’re experiencing today that perhaps a simple shift in perspective could change how you feel? But rather than just changing the angle, how about raising the view? From the higher perspective light flows in freely and uninterrupted which allows a clearer picture and perhaps a beautiful, new understanding!
I’d love to hear how changing your perspective has added increased light and understanding to your life. Share in the comments below.

I have the same problem with taking pictures. I often wait till the sun moves into another position. Or I don’t take the picture. I find it annoying but I am so busy that I go onto another chore and forget it. Was nice to share the same problem for a moment.

I know! And it’s so easy to get annoyed but so much more fun to just laugh about it! And we keep trying Arlene, don’t we? 🙂
