I unashamedly look for the good in all situations.
I say unashamedly because there was a time I stopped acknowledging the positives.
Eye rolls or comments from others telling me I was such a Pollyanna, as if that was a bad thing, embarrassed me.
Life experiences have since reinforced that looking for the positive is magical, and such comments or actions no longer bother me.
Instead, I now choose to actively search for the good in every circumstance.
And I ask you…
The Question
Why not?
Why do anything other than look for the good?
Say you’re waiting in a long line at the grocery store, or stuck in a traffic jam.
You have two choices-focus on what you don’t like, or turn the situation into a positive experience.
Either way the same amount of time will pass.
Only in one scenario you’re miserable, the other you might even have fun.
I Almost Missed My Flight
I once almost missed my flight because of the choice to look for the good.
The wait was long.
People were tired and cranky.
Not wanting to succumb to the general feeling of irritation, I sat next to a woman, and struck up a conversation.
We got so involved in each other’s stories, and so enjoyed each other we hadn’t noticed that everyone had boarded the flight!
What a surprise to hear both our names announced over the intercom!
We looked at each other realizing we didn’t even know each other’s names until that moment, and laughingly, albeit a little embarrassingly, grabbed our bags and boarded the plane.
Everyone on that flight had to wait the same amount of time. (Well, maybe a minute or two longer while they paged two inattentive flyers).
But for me and my new friend, the time we waited seemed incredibly short, and so much fun!
I don’t remember the long wait.
Instead, I remember the connection made with a fellow traveler.
Looking for the good made all the difference.
Why not change your perspective and look for the good in everything?
It might change your experience to one of meaning, connection, and joy.
I’d love to hear your experiences of turning a situation around because you chose to look for the good.
