While I was growing up, my father would often point out signs to be found in nature.
I loved these mini-lessons that came so naturally to him.
-Constellations of stars reflecting the seasons by their movement through the night sky.
-Ring of light around the moon signaling rain or snow tomorrow.
-Various colors of rock layers in mountains telling of past natural formations.
My Favorite Lesson
I especially enjoyed learning about the night sky.
My dad taught me how to find the North Star.
Though it is not the brightest star in the night sky, it is a constant, which all the other constellations revolve around.
The North Star can be a valuable tool to find your direction when lost.
But only if you choose to seek and to follow.
There is another star that though we no longer see it, leads us to something much more constant than the North Star.
The Most Important Lesson
The Star of Bethlehem led the way to find the Christ child.
As we ponder the symbolism of the Star of Bethlehem, we realize that star can lead us to the risen Lord.
But only if we choose to seek and then follow.
The Trappings of Christmas
The trappings of Christmas can become a trap of rushing here and there, and losing sight of the meaning of Christmas.
OR
we can see the symbols of Christmas and let them become reminders of Christ.
Recognizing the Symbols
I encourage you to look for the symbols of Christmas. Let them remind you of Christ.
In your desire to give gifts this season, remember that gift-giving is one of the most meaningful of the symbols.
The life and sacrifice of the Savior Jesus Christ was a glorious gift to us all!
I wish you all a beautiful and joyous Merry Christmas!
Much love,
