I believe it’s possible to honor fathers every day.
In my mind, an event worth celebrating should last for more than a moment.
Birth days become birthday weeks. The commemoration of a wedding becomes a week-long anniversary celebration. The honoring of Christmas Day becomes a month of Christmas activities.
You get the idea.
Yesterday we celebrated Father’s Day in the United States.
Since I’m a believer in extending a celebration as long as possible, I think father’s (and mothers) merit remembering every day.
Gifts and cards are nice, but even greater honor is through the way we live.
Much of who I am was shaped by my parents.
I remember my father daily when I:
*wield a hammer and nails, paintbrush, tire jack, or plunger.
*teach my children to work
*take time to laugh and have fun with my family
*faithfully, quietly go about getting things done, without fanfare.
*show my love for my spouse
*attend my children’s school activities after a tiring day of work
*willingly serve when it’s not convenient
My list can go on and on.
Did any of these activities remind you of your father?
Would consciously recognizing his influence in your daily life be a way of honoring him?
I invite you to honor your father this day by observing his influence in all that you do and are.
Much love,
