Two years ago I began an important project that required much reading and study. I have now completed that project, but I know someone else who finished it in six months.
In my notes from the beginning of the project I had written the following:
“It would be easy to get overwhelmed and quit or to not even start, thinking there is too much to do and that I’ll never get through it all. I choose instead to focus on the daily action and enjoy the experience.”
Two years and one month later, I finished what I had set out to accomplish!
I had not set a deadline, but committed to finishing by small, daily actions.
Some days were better than others, and the days I went through the motions with my mind on other things, I moved ahead, but didn’t enjoy the task.
Whereas when I was thoroughly invested and focused, were the days I enjoyed and learned the most!
Had I forced myself to complete the task to reach an arbitrary deadline, I would have finished sooner, but I would not have grown as much from the experience.
Small steps that seem insignificant create a momentum toward learning and ultimate success.
Don’t give up because a project or something you care about is taking longer than you’d hoped.
Focus instead on the joy of your daily effort.
Let your daily, consistent actions carry you on to the ultimate success of your accomplishment! Some projects take weeks, some years, and some a lifetime.
With love,
