It amazes me to see how my feelings or energy vibrations affect situations around me!
I have stated this before:
“When thankfulness is felt, on an emotional level, gratitude then becomes a part of us and ripples out into the way we live and the way we influence others.”
The effect we have on others reflects back to us!
That give and take of positive (or negative) emotions alters the experience and continues to expand outward, enveloping more people and more situations.
I recently spent a long day in a hospital with my husband who was having knee surgery.
Hospitals can easily be associated with discomfort, unpleasantness and outright pain. Or they can be associated with blessings, compassion, gratitude and healing.
This is my experience.
I could have been:
- unhappy with the early hour, leaving the house by 3:30 a.m. at -8 degrees.
- irritated at two loud talkers in the waiting room.
- tired from long hours of waiting.
- frightened of what could happen in the surgery.
- worried for situations out of my control.
- distracted by what was happening at home.
- expecting to be frustrated with the medical care.
Instead I only experienced gratitude:
Gratitude for:
- the stormy weather that had subsided so we could drive on clear roads.
- the warm air blowing in through the long, temporary hospital entrance which was under construction.
- the hot cocoa available in the waiting room.
- the new friend I made while waiting and the mutual hug when we parted.
- the time to ponder.
- the ability to feel confident and trust in what was happening.
- the kind and capable nurses who tended to my husband’s needs.
- the successful efforts of a skilled and experienced surgeon
The list goes on and on.
Every grateful feeling I felt, seemed to expand and draw to me another positive experience.
My experience could easily have gone either way according to what I might have chosen to feel.
I’m grateful I chose to be grateful. 🙂
You can choose what you experience by choosing how you feel. Choose to feel gratitude.
With love,
