This past summer, where I live, we experienced weeks of hazy skies. Fires around our area, combined with grain harvesting, made for smoke-filled, dusky days.
I did not realize how long we’d been living under these blurry skies until the day it cleared!
Not that I hadn’t known the sky was smoky and filled with grain dust, but after so many weeks of not seeing the blue sky, I had forgotten how wonderful a clear sky was until the day it appeared!
The thing is, I had been complaining about the very thing that was soon to give us clear skies – the wind!
Wind has always been a bit disconcerting to me and I tend to feel rather negatively about it.
The day before the blue sky, we were experiencing 30 mph winds. I was complaining and letting my husband know how unhappy I was about the blowing when he calmly commented that the wind was blowing the hazy sky away.
That stopped me in my tracks. I hadn’t thought of that!
Immediately, my attitude and feelings changed!
It is amazing how one astute comment can suddenly shed new light and shift one’s perspective and emotional state!
With just that one comment of my husband, I had an immediate change in attitude.
What was, just a moment before a negative, a problem, a burden, suddenly became a positive and something to rejoice! The wind had not stopped nor had it lessened its ferocity. My perspective was the only thing that changed.
Are there experiences you’re going through now, that a shift in understanding could change your perspective and bring about a more positive and hopeful interpretation?
Sometimes we get so caught up in our view of events that we fail to see that what we are experiencing might be the exact thing needed to bring about something wonderful!
Just as that wind storm was getting on my nerves and making me irritable, the sudden realization of the good it was bringing about, immediately changed my perspective of bleakness to one of joy!
I invite you to find something that is irritating you, seeming to make your days dismal and bleak and see what change in perspective you can give it to discover the peace and joy that may follow.
With love,

Thanks for this one. I’ve loved seeing the clear skies down where we are and I actually love the wind. The kids and I “dance in the wind” as we call it whenever we are outside and its blustery. I appreciate the perspective reminder. Much love! Amanda

I love “the dance in the wind” outlook, Amanda! It reminded me of how I loved the wind as a child because I could then go fly my kite. Hmmm. I might have to go find me a kite. ?
