As I was walking past the financial service center at the front of the grocery store the other day, I happened to glance at a sign on their table that read, “Sign up for your digital pineapple.” What?!
I didn’t put a lot of thought into it but I wondered what a digital pineapple was. As I glanced again, I read, correctly this time, “Sign up for your digital account.”
Oops! I felt a little sheepish realizing I had misread the sign. And I remembered the prescription glasses buried deep in my purse.
Now, I use my glasses, when I feel they are needed, like driving at night or watching a movie. But for the rest of the time I don’t feel they are really necessary. Besides, they are rather inconvenient and it’s such a minor prescription. (I’m still legal to drive without them).
Yet, I had the help accessible and close by and would probably not have misread that sign if I had only used my glasses.
It got me thinking about areas of my life where I have help available to me but for whatever reason, choose not to take advantage of it.
Am I making my life harder than it needs to be? Are you?
Are there areas in your life that, for whatever reason (inconvenience, pride, ignorance) you are not using the helps and support available to you and so life is harder than it needs to be?
Do you have a tendency to:
- push through a challenging situation thinking you have to do it all on your own?
- stay upset longer than the situation warrants?
- hold tight to beliefs that constrict your thinking and hold you back?
- feel overwhelmed and easily frustrated?
First off, you are not alone. Secondly, there is much you can do to overcome these hinderances to a happy life. Many helps are as simple as figuratively putting on a pair of glasses.
Such as:
- Ask a supportive family member or friend for a listening ear.
- Give another that listening ear. Service is amazing in helping us overcome our own challenges.
- Commit to a daily spiritual practice to strengthen your foundation and resiliency to the ups and downs of life.
- Take steps to meet your physical as well as emotional needs on a daily basis.
These and many more helps build and strengthen us. Accepting such emotional and physical support help reset and keep our focus on our potential for growth and improves not only our lives but the world around us.
I invite you to choose one simple thing you can do today to support and assist you in your endeavors.
I think I will work on being more open to the support of others… and to wear my glasses more often. 🙂
