Living on a farm, I now pay more attention to the weather than I ever did before.
It’s not uncommon where I live in Idaho to experience sun, clouds, rain, wind, lightning, hail, even a tornado watch, and back to sunshine, all in the same day!
Except for the potential of losing our crops, it could be quite exciting!
From one moment to the next, I can look out the window and see a completely different sky.
Unstable Weather
This unstable weather occurs not only literally, but also figuratively.
How similar it is to life!
We never know from one day to the next, or even from moment to moment, what will come next.
However, the uncertainty of life need not disrupt our sense of well-being.
If we base our happiness on external circumstances, then peace is transitory.
Finding Peace in the Storm
But what if I were to tell you that finding peace in the storm is possible?
When we are burdened, overwhelmed, or discouraged, it’s easy to believe that life will continue that way indefinitely.
I’ve come to realize those moments pass, both the good and the bad, the happy and the sad.
Just as the weather can change from sun to clouds, rain to hail, and so on, life also changes from one moment to the next.
However, there is a sure-fire way to help you navigate both the literal, physical days of dark, stormy weather and also the figurative dark, stormy days of life.
- Remember the times of sunshine.
- Remember that you have overcome difficult times before.
- Reflect on the goodness and kindness of others.
- Recognize that you have the power to change the direction of your thoughts.
- Acknowledge that you are not alone.
- Understand that this moment will not last forever.
- Take the time to pray.
And as you remember, feel gratitude.
Remembrance brings about gratitude, and feeling grateful brings peace and comfort.
The chaos of life need never overwhelm you.
There is always light and hope!
