With the solar eclipse occurring today April 8, 2024 over North America, I am reminded of the solar eclipse of August 2017.
My home was directly in the middle of its path through the United States and the event was amazing!
While preparing for the big day I read about a business owner in another part of the country planning to shoot fireworks during the eclipse.
His intent was “to enhance” the solar eclipse experience.
Really?!
How could fireworks possibly enhance the rare event of the sun being completely blocked by the moon, and everything unique that goes along with that-Bailey’s beads, the shadow snakes, the Diamond Ring, the Corona, etc.?!
Would you want to trade a singular event, the solar eclipse, for something you can see yearly, if not more often, fireworks?
Now, don’t get me wrong.
I love fireworks, but I wouldn’t dream of trading a unique solar eclipse event for something I can regularly.
This got me thinking of the number of times I might be trading something of significance for something of lesser value.
For example:
-Reading positive quotes on social media can be uplifting, but can that be as fulfilling as personally connecting with a loved one?
-A family movie night can be fun, but is it taking the place of actually talking or interacting with each other?
Are there times in your life when you might be trading something meaningful for something of lesser importance?
As you view today’s eclipse perhaps you’ll be inspired to eliminate the less important for experiences of greater value and worth.
Have a wonderful, solar eclipse day!
