Years ago when my husband and I were starting our life together, we worked many long hours to build a successful farm and family.
Because money was tight we rarely ate out.
When we did, we carefully chose from the budget items on the menu.
But there was one occasion when we did not base our choice of food on the cost.
At the end of each farming season my wise husband would take me out to dinner and say,
“We are celebrating another year of farming.”
He felt we had worked hard and needed to reward ourselves.
He would declare the event a celebration and so it was!
AS TIME WENT ON
Over the years we were able to go out to eat more often and each time my husband would ask,
“What can we celebrate today?”
It became a time of looking for things that we were grateful for, so that every time out became a celebration.
We’d give just about anything as a reason to celebrate-our time together, our children’s grades, the sun was out, our crop did not get rained on, or did (depending on what we needed at the time).
It became a delight to think of so many things as reasons to celebrate.
My husband’s desire to appreciate, not just the big events, but also the day to day events, was a mark of expressing gratitude.
Celebrating became our way of expressing appreciation.
CHOOSE TO CELEBRATE
Rather than waiting until the end of the day and remembering things to be grateful for, I now start my days looking for things to be grateful for.
Doing so means I celebrate every day of my life.
Choosing to celebrate the big and the small is my way of expressing and living in gratitude.
Perhaps you’d like to join me today and throughout this new year to seek reasons to celebrate.
Doing so can quickly change the direction of your new year to one of gratitude, thankfulness and celebration.
Here’s to a New Year, or better yet, a new life of celebration!
Much love,
